If you can tell your story, you are not only helping yourself, but you are assisting others who are struggling in knowing that they are not along. - Natalie Overson, Cancer Survivor

NATALIE UNGA

While attending school in Hawaii, on her 25th birthday, Natalie Overson Unga discovered she had breast cancer. She found that this experience would be a journey she would never trade. One that she knew needed to be shared. Today Natalie is the co-founder of the Foundation for Stories of Cancer Heroes.

Natalie Overson Unga was born in Richfield, Utah, completed high school and then attended Utah Valley State College where her athletics and education occupied her time as she played basketball for two years and graduated with her Associates of Science in Legal Studies.

She decided that there was more to life than basketball and boys. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent a year and a half in upstate New York serving the community and helping families. After her mission she went to BYU Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii to finish her education. After a year and a half of school she returned to Utah for Christmas break to find out that she had Breast Cancer. At the age of 25 this took her life in a whole new direction.

In June 2004 she went back to Hawaii and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Cultural Studies. Her battle with Cancer continued until September 2005 when she finished all of her treatments. Her cancer is now in remission and she is doing great. Natalie was married in April 2006 to the man she calls her “rock,” and currently resides in Northern California with him.

If there was one thing she would tell anyone fighting cancer it would be what her doctor told her “You can do anything you want to do, as long as you feel like it; don’t let Cancer take you down.”
