Q. What if I need help activating my account?

Q. What if I require an extension beyond the 60 days?
An additional 30 day extension is usually provided upon request. Please contact the volunteer who took your application or email support@storiesofcancerheroes.org

Q. What if I wish to have someone proofread my story before submitting it for publishing?
We recommend that you have a family member or friend assist you with proof reading. Keep in mind that you are the author and you do not want someone to ever rewrite your story.

Q. What happens to my publishing account once I finish my storybook?
The account remains yours to use for future books you wish to write. All your photos and your first storybook are stored for future use and for reordering additional copies.

Q. How can my family and friends order additional books?
You can provide family and friends with your Publishing Account ID and they can order, pay for, and have copies of your book mailed directly to their homes.

Q. What if I can’t finish my book in 60 days?
We ask that you try to finish your book in 60days with the help of our volunteers, but we are also willing to work with you to complete this on your timeline.

Q. What is the cost of the book?
The books are paid for by the Foundation of Stories of Cancer Heroes and for Kaiser Applicants the shipping costs are paid for by Kaiser. This makes the book absolutely free for you. The value of the book and what you receive for free is worth $49.99.

Q. Where do I make the book?
The books are made on the computer, on the internet. Stories of Cancer Heroes has partnered with Heritage Makers, an online publishing company to give this opportunity to you. We will give you all the instructions to complete the book.

Q. What if I don’t have a computer or email?
If you don’t have an email we will use your telephone number to contact you. If you don’t have a computer we provide Workshops at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa free of charge where you will be helped by volunteers on their computers to create your book and write your story.

Q. I am not a writer; do you have materials to help me?
We have a writing guide, with questions to answer and volunteers who can give you help. There are 28 pages and you can have a lot of writing or just a little.

Q. What if I don’t have very many pictures? What if they are not digital photos?
You can use very few pictures and tell the story with your words. You can also scan anything you have to make it a picture. We will have scanners at the workshops to make your photos digital or you can scan them on your own.

Q. How do I get the book?
Once you have entered your pictures and your words online at the Publishing site, the company will print and bind the book and send it to your home address.
